The inspiration for the range is described by the designers..”After a lunch with a divine lady named Diana Athill the perplexing task of naming our latest collection was solved. Her name, her demeanor her elegance and wit, her fine head of coiffed hair, everything about her stated ‘English lady’. Born in 1917 she has worked as a literary editor with some of the most important writers of the 20th century, she is a novelist and raconteur and is completely fascinating. In essence this collection is brim full of vintage English charm and the name Athill seemed so fitting. My favourite ditzy prints, with just the right amount of colour, beautifully adapted by Moda divided into tiny, medium and larger scale prints.”

Pure Velvet is a range of Quilt Fabric with dramatic large florals by Fabric Freedom. 5 different types of flower, including hydrangeas with their showy heads of flat flowers, their heavy balls of colour are both deep and dark. Hyacinths, with their exquisite columns of waxen petals and the sweet, delicate violet, one of our early spring garden visitors. Later arrivals are lilac with its heavy bunches of tubular flowers, a favourite with the bees and butterflies, as are the delicate, scented sweet pea. All of these go beautifully together and we hope they inspire you to create your next quilting project.

Oriental Traditions 9 range of Asian-Inspired Quilting Fabric by Robert Kaufman.

Deco Dance 2 range of Quilt Fabric by Fabric Freedom. This range has been inspired by the style and artistic individuality of Clarice Cliff. She was the most prolific ceramic designer of her generation and her designs caught the imagination of the thirties. Fabric Freedom have revisited 4 of the most popular designs from this range, including the panel made up from 6” squares containing 5 different stylised scenes. The panel is inspired by landscape designs and set in a circle within a square, the theme of which has been picked up in an all-over design of trees, houses and rolling hills depicted in Art Deco style. Realistic crocuses and nasturtiums contrast with these scenes, which have all been coloured in bright reds, yellows and oranges, and are embellished with metallic gold to add lustre and richness.

Shop News – December 2011
Dare we say it but Christmas is fast approaching and we’ve already sold out of most Advent Calendars and they’re only a few stockings left. Rob reckons it’s because of his new shelving, being able to display things so much better. Verona’s of the view that it’s her choice of fabrics. Why is she always right?!
We had a really wonderful response to our Quilt show in July, raising £2500 over the two days which does not include the Prize Quilt raffle which is still ongoing till the 16th December. Thank you to everybody who helped in so many ways. Along with other fund raising we sent just under £3000 to the orphanage in Thailand. We had a letter back recently to say that although the building is safe, the roads and surrounding homes have been washed away in the dreadful floods. The orphanage is therefore also being used as a refuge for the homeless! …and we think we are going through hard times!
We have now released the new class and workshop programme. We will now publish the programme twice yearly rather than three times. If you would like to receive the new programmes by email as soon as they are released please click here to sign up.
We have a wonderful new Lynette Anderson fabric coming in very shortly from Lecien. If her last, “Scandinavian Christmas” was anything to go by it won’t be in the shop very long. Also starting in January, we will be running a block of the month “William Morris” by In the Beginning Fabrics, please call for details. As you know we have new fabrics coming in all the time so don’t be too long before you pay us another visit.
All that remains is to thank you all for your support and wish you a Very Happy and Healthy Christmas and New Year.
May God Bless us All .
