SMOCKED CHRISTMAS BAUBLE
Tutor: Jacquie Holmes. Workshop Cost: £35. Day/Date: Sunday 8th December 2024
Time: 10 am – 3:30 pm. Skill level: All levels (Hand sewing)
Another new tutor to Sew and So’s, Jacqueline has stitched all her life and has been a member of the Embroiderers’ Guild for around 40 years and The Smockers (a specialist, national group) for about 18 years. She loves doing hand embroidery, having that direct connection with the fabric and threads.
Prepare for the festivities with Jaqueline and make a sparkly handmade bauble. In this relaxing hand stitching workshop, you will learn about smocking, a pleating and embroidery stitching method that was once used instead of elastic to gather fabric. Here, Jacqueline has used this decorative technique to create these beautiful Christmas baubles. Methods of pleating fabric ready for stitching will be demonstrated but as it takes a lot of time, ready pleated fabric will be included in a kit. Two basic smocking stitches will be taught and used along with beads to create the bauble. At the end of the day, you will go home with something special to adorn your tree.
Jacquie will provide all students with a kit, £10 payable to the tutor on the day.
