GENTLE STITCHES
A two-day workshop
Tutor: Nick Kimber
Workshop Cost: £74
Days/Dates: Thursday 29th and Friday 30th May 2025
Time: 10 am – 3:30 pm
Skill level: All levels
As the title suggests, this workshop is designed to give you two entire days to stitch and enjoy the process of passing a needle through cloth and appreciate the mark it has left behind.
Nick’s Gentle Stitches have taken their inspiration from Kantha embroideries, they are stitched by hand, so consideration is given to each and every stitch. It is meditative and considered. Kantha traditionally was stitched by groups of women who told their story on the cloth, so Nick feels it is fitting that your journey into this simple technique will also be within a group of fellow stitchers. She will show you how the strips are constructed, and how this can be adapted for further projects. You will have time to learn and experiment with unfamiliar stitches and the use of stencils to create exciting points of interest. Each stitch will lead to another and in doing so you will begin to understand the fabric and choose the appropriate colour and design of stitch going forward, with Nick on hand at the beginning of this journey to help with this decision making.
