PAINT & STITCH

Spend two days with Nick Kimber creating a picture of your choice in this jam-packed course. On day one Nick will encourage you to design your own picture and will bring numerous samples to give you ideas or, if you prefer you will be able to use one of her designs. The background fabric will be pieced, and for those who wish, it can be distressed on an embellisher (if you have an embellisher do bring it along). Free motion stitching will be used to transfer the design - for those who prefer not to use a free-motion stitch Nick will make sure that your design is suitable for you to stitch with the feed-dogs up.
On the second day Nick will start the day off with a demonstration on how interest can be built up on the background with stitch and then show you how she uses the paints. This will include emulsion paint being rolled over the surface of textured areas, using Markal paint sticks, and in the finer areas with the heavy bodied acrylics plus some other interesting paints that give an iridescent look. This will be a real opportunity to experiment with a variety of paints (there will be a small charge of £8 for paints on the day).
Finally, there will be a discussion on how hand stitching can be added to enhance the piece, how to bind it and finally options on how to display it.
